No one looks forward to a hospital stay, but at Mary Black Health System - Spartanburg, we work hard to make sure your visit is as pleasant as possible. Here's a few things you should know about your room and our hospital in general that can help make your time with us restful and healing.
Bed rails are on each bed and will be used when your safety is involved (especially at night and after sedatives have been administered). Do not lean out of bed to reach for items on the bedside table or on the floor.
Please ask your nurse for assistance in adjusting the thermostat that controls the temperature in your room.
Calling Your Nurse
A nurse call button is located at each bed. To call your nurse, simply push the button and it will notify the nurses' station that you need assistance.
All patient restrooms have either a nurse call cord or a nurse call button. Pulling the cord or pushing the button will automatically notify the nurses' stations.
Mary Black Health System - Spartanburg provides cable television in patient rooms. See channel 99 for a list of available stations and programming or download a printable list.
Controls for your television are located on the instrument panel on your bedrail or through a hand-held control.
We periodically conduct fire drills. If you hear an alarm, please stay where you are. In the event of an actual emergency, you will be notified by hospital staff.
For the safety and protection of our patients, staff, and visitors, Mary Black Health System - Spartanburg is committed to maintaining a smoke-free environment. No smoking is allowed on hospital property.
Wireless Internet Service
We offer guest wireless internet service to any visitor who has a personal wireless laptop/device. Wireless access is available throughout the hospital, including patient rooms, lobby, cafeteria, and other public areas.
Volunteers deliver free newspapers on weekdays to all patients. Newspapers can also be purchased from the machine in the hospital dining room.
Mail and Flowers
Hospital volunteers will deliver mail and flowers to your room. Flowers are prohibited in the Intensive Care Unit and restrictions including no glass containers apply for patients on Tower 7. Mail received after you have been discharged will be forwarded to your home address. Flowers received after you have gone home will be returned to the florist for delivery.
To provide for your spiritual and emotional needs, Mary Black Health System - Spartanburg has chaplains of various denominations on call seven days a week for patients and family members. If you desire a visit, your nurse will be glad to call for you.
An interfaith chapel is located in front of the tower elevators on the first floor. The chapel is always open for prayer and meditation.
An automated teller machine (ATM) provided by Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union is in the hospital dining room. The ATM interfaces with American Express, Discover, Cirrus, Maestro, MasterCard, Plus, Quest, Star, and VISA.
Your doctor will oversee healthy and appropriate nutrition for you while you are here. You may also be allowed to choose some or all of your meals, and a selection sheet will be provided to you daily. Please return your selected menu with your breakfast tray. If you have not finished making your choice by the time your tray is picked up, you may give your menu to your nurse. If you need assistance completing your menu selection, please dial 3894 and ask one of our dietitians for help. If your tray cannot be served at the regular mealtime because of a certain treatment, you will be served as soon as possible.
During your hospital stay, we want your meals to be enjoyable. If you have any problems or requests with your meals, call Food Services at (864) 573-3894.
Inpatient guest trays may be purchased through the Admitting office, (864) 573-3814.
