The Sleep Center at Mary Black Health System - Spartanburg performs sleep studies on children, starting at age 12, through adults. Sleep Studies at the Sleep Center take place in comfortable, home-like rooms.
Just like exercising and eating right, sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. There are more than 80 types of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia and restless legs syndrome. If you suffer from a sleep disorder, it can have a lasting effect on your emotional and physical well-being. At Mary Black Health System, we are dedicated to the diagnoses and treatment of sleep conditions for patients of all ages.
Insufficient sleep has been linked to a number of chronic diseases and conditions, including obesity, depression, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. If you find it hard to get the rest you need, our team of specialists can assess your sleeping patterns and develop a treatment plan that is right for you. Usually, the best way to gather the information needed for a diagnosis is through a sleep study. This is done overnight in a private room at our sleep center. We will identify your sleep patterns by monitoring your heart, brain and breathing patterns. Once our sleep study is completed and enough information is gathered, we will recommend the most appropriate treatment to address your needs.
To accommodate busy schedules, Mary Black Health System's Sleep Centers offer both day and night studies six nights a week.
To prepare for your sleep study, ensure your hair and skin is clean when you arrive and avoid the use of lotions and hair products. Washcloths and towels are available at the center to remove any remaining makeup or lotion before the study begins.
