Early Pregnancy
The first months of pregnancy are some of the most important in your baby’s life. Doing the right things during this critical time can promote better health and prevent possible problems. This class helps you understand your body’s changes along with your baby’s development during those important first months. Register to take this class between 16 - 22 weeks of pregnancy. We discuss how your diet, exercise and lifestyle can affect your baby. Click here to view class schedule.
Prepared Childbirth
As your due date approaches, you begin to think about the actual birthing process. Moms today have many options and recent innovations from which to choose. This series of classes concentrates on the last three months of pregnancy, teaching the mother and father about the labor process and childbirth.
Breast-feeding--A Common Bond
Breast-feeding not only provides your precious baby with the nutrients needed for a healthy first year of life, it provides many other benefits for both of you. Breast-feeding provides not only the healthiest of foods for your new little bundle, it also creates a very special time for mother and child to bond. The Birthing Center offers several support services to help you with breast-feeding, including:
- A certified lactation consultant
- Breast-feeding education classes and one-to-one advice
- Availability of breast-feeding support while in the hospital
- The loan of books and videos
- Breastpump rental/purchase program
- Prenatal and postnatal breast-feeding counseling
Newborn Care
If you're a little nervous about caring for your newborn’s basic needs, this class will help relieve your anxiety. Learn about diapering, bathing and feeding as well as symptoms to look for when your baby may be ill. Circumcision and cord care will also be discussed.
Sibling Education
To help make the transition easier when the new baby arrives, we offer a course just for big brothers and big sisters so they know what to expect when a new baby comes home from the hospital. The class includes a tour of The Birthing Center and 'pretend practice' with a baby doll from home.
Infant and Child CPR
Although no one expects their baby to have a problem, it is always best to be prepared. This life support training, based on American Heart Association guidelines, prepares you to properly administer CPR on babies and small children.
