Mammography

If you are looking for a fully accredited Mammography program, you need to look no further than Mary Black Health System. All our Mammography locations are accredited by both the American College of Radiology (ACR) and MSQA (Mammography Quality Standards Act), the FDA's federal accreditation program. Accreditation means you can rest assured that your mammogram will be performed by a licensed radiographer and the mammography equipment meets all the requirements set forth by the ACR and FDA.

Mary Black Health System provides Seleniaä digital mammography. It incorporates revolutionary imaging technology that provides incredibly sharp breast images. The images appear on the technologist’s monitor in a matter of seconds, there is no waiting for film to develop, which means less time in the breast imaging suite for patients.

Through this advanced digital mammography capability featuring the Seleniaä digital mammography from Hologic, Mary Black Memorial Hospital is now a certified Pink Ribbon Facility, a distinction awarded only to an elite group of healthcare facilities. By offering women digital mammograms, Mary Black hopes to increase the number of Spartanburg area women who follow recommendations for regular screenings.

Seleniaä digital mammography offers a number of other practical advantages and patient conveniences. Because there is no waiting for film to be developed it significantly reduces the need for repeat exams due to under or over exposure. Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on one set of original films, which can be misfiled or lost in transit.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 97%.

Mary Black Health System is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering digital mammography, Mary Black Memorial Hospital provides the latest in imaging quality. If you would like to schedule a patient for a mammogram call 864-573-3245. If you have any questions about the new Hologic technology at Mary Black, contact the Radiology Department at 864-573-3285.

Mary Black Health System's mammography clinic utilizes private, one-on-one consultations and exams with qualified female technologists. Having completed a two-year radiological technology program, each technologist is registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). They also have ARRT Mammography Certification and are South Carolina licensed. Each technologist completes 10-12 hours of required continuing education in mammography each year.

From the equipment to the technologists to the radiologists, Mary Black Health System mammography team goes above and beyond the call of duty to meet all ACR, state and federal requirements and your expectations.
