Mary Black Health System Rehabilitation Center Merits CARF Accreditation

Sameena Malhan, MD, Appointed Medical Director

 

Spartanburg, SC—The Mary Black Center for Rehabilitation Medicine has been awarded three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Now, in addition to being the only acute inpatient rehabilitation center in Spartanburg County it is also the only CARF-accredited program. In conjunction with this outstanding achievement, Sameena Malhan, MD, FAAPMR, has been appointed medical director of the program.

 

Dr. Malhan is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a subspecialty board certification in spinal cord injury medicine. Prior to joining Mary Black, she served as the medical director for the rehab unit at DePaul Health Center in St. Louis, Mo. She received her medial degree from Washington University in St. Louis where she did her residency and was chief resident at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

 

In addition to receiving numerous honors and awards, she has trained extensively in ophthalmology in India and England and has published research studies on the subject. Dr. Malhan is also certified in acupuncture from the University of Southern California and her special interests include facial acupuncture, visual rehab and amputee rehab.

 

Founded in 1966, CARF is an independent, non-profit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of rehabilitative services.
