Mary Black Health System to be Featured in a Best Practices Book
November 9, 2006
Mary Black Health System has been featured in Baptist Leadership Institute’s publication of Best Practices: Leading the Way to Cultural Excellence. In the book, twenty-seven health care organizations from across the nation were invited to share the best practices that evolved during their collective journeys to performance excellence. A compendium of first-rate tools, processes, strategies and guidelines, the publication was made available in December 2006 through the Institute’s web site http://www.baptistleadershipinstitute.com.
The book was conceived and created as a celebration of achievement. Since the year 2000, the Leadership Institute has been fortunate enough to work with many, many organizations as they embarked on their cultural transformations. While each one shared the same vision of performance excellence, all emphasized different venues on how to make that journey a reality. Some focused on a values-based behavior; some chose prideful teamwork; others centered on engagement through communication; and still others concentrated on innovation. Their efforts resulted in highly successful initiatives that became best-practice prototypes unique to their own particular cultures.
A best practice is a business principle which affirms that there is a technique, method, process, activity, incentive or reward that is more effective at delivering a particular outcome than any other. The sought-after outcome in this case is an operational excellence impact on the culture of an organization.
The Baptist Health Care Leadership Institute is an affiliate of Baptist Health Care, the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality recipient (Baptist Hospital, Inc) and Training magazine’s Top 100 Training Organization (2002 - 2005).
